Cook time: 15–20 minutes
Total: about 35 minutes

 Ingredients

  • 1 medium green cabbage, finely shredded — about 5–6 cups
  • 3 large eggs
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup shredded cheese, optional
  • 2 tbsp finely chopped fresh parsley or cilantro
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • ¼ tsp dried oregano
  • 2–3 tbsp cooking oil, for frying

 Instructions

  1. Prepare the cabbage: Finely shred the cabbage. Sprinkle with a little salt and let it sit for 5–10 minutes.
  2. Squeeze the cabbage firmly to remove excess water. This helps the patties hold together.
  3. Make the mixture: In a large bowl, combine cabbage, eggs, flour, garlic, herbs, pepper, paprika and oregano. Add cheese if using.
  4. Mix thoroughly until everything is evenly coated and the mixture holds together when pressed.
  5. Shape: Divide into 8–10 portions and form thick oval or round patties.
  6. Pan-fry: Heat a thin layer of oil in a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Place the patties in the pan without overcrowding.
  7. Cook for 3–5 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through.
  8. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate and serve hot.
