A cozy slow-cooker casserole made with tender pierogies, smoky kielbasa, creamy sauce, and melted cheese. It’s hearty, comforting, and incredibly easy to prepare.
Ingredients
- 1 package (16 oz / 450 g) frozen potato and cheese pierogies
- 14 oz (400 g) kielbasa, sliced into ½-inch rounds
- 1 small yellow onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (10.5 oz / 298 g) condensed cream of mushroom soup
- 1 cup sour cream
- ½ cup chicken broth
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- ¼ teaspoon salt, or to taste
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley, for garnish
- Optional: ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes for heat
Instructions
- Lightly grease the inside of a 6-quart slow cooker with cooking spray or a little butter.
- Place half of the frozen pierogies in the bottom of the slow cooker.
- Add half of the sliced kielbasa and half of the chopped onion.
- Sprinkle with half of the minced garlic, paprika, Italian seasoning, black pepper, and a small pinch of salt.
- In a bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, chicken broth, and melted butter until smooth.
- Pour half of the creamy mixture over the pierogies and kielbasa.
- Repeat with the remaining pierogies, kielbasa, onion, garlic, and seasonings.
- Pour the remaining sauce evenly over everything.
- Cover and cook on LOW for 4–5 hours, or until the pierogies are tender and heated through. Avoid overcooking because the pierogies can become too soft.
- About 20–30 minutes before serving, sprinkle the cheddar and mozzarella evenly over the top.
- Cover again and continue cooking until the cheese is completely melted and bubbly.
- Turn off the slow cooker and let the casserole rest for about 5 minutes.
- Garnish with fresh parsley and serve warm.

Q&A
Q: Do I need to thaw the pierogies first?
A: No. Frozen pierogies can go directly into the slow cooker.
Q: Can I use fresh pierogies?
A: Yes. Fresh pierogies may cook faster, so begin checking them earlier.
Q: Can I use a different sausage?
A: Yes. Smoked sausage, turkey kielbasa, chicken sausage, or another fully cooked smoked sausage can work well.
Q: Can I make this without cream of mushroom soup?
A: Yes. Substitute with condensed cream of chicken soup or make a homemade creamy sauce using butter, flour, milk, and seasonings.
Q: Can I add vegetables?
A: Absolutely. Mushrooms, bell peppers, spinach, peas, or broccoli are good additions.
Q: Can I make it spicy?
A: Add crushed red pepper flakes, diced jalapeño, or a little hot sauce to the creamy mixture.
Q: Can I freeze leftovers?
A: Yes, although the texture of the pierogies may become slightly softer after freezing. Store in an airtight freezer-safe container for up to 2 months.
Q: How do I reheat leftovers?
A: Reheat gently in the microwave or in a covered skillet with a small splash of milk or broth until hot.
