Creamy, cheesy pasta loaded with crispy bacon and classic ranch flavor. This easy comfort-food recipe is perfect for a quick family dinner.
Ingredients
Pasta
12 oz (340 g) penne or rotini pasta
6 slices bacon, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon butter
1 cup heavy cream
4 oz (115 g) cream cheese, softened
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
½ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
1½ tablespoons ranch seasoning mix
½ teaspoon black pepper
¼ teaspoon garlic powder
¼ teaspoon onion powder
½ cup reserved pasta water
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley or green onions
Optional
1½ cups cooked shredded chicken
½ cup diced tomatoes
½ cup baby spinach
¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes
Instructions
1. Cook the Pasta
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
Add the pasta and cook according to the package directions until al dente.
Before draining, reserve ½ cup pasta water.
Drain the pasta and set aside.
2. Cook the Bacon
Place the chopped bacon in a large skillet over medium heat.
Cook for 6–8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until crispy.
Transfer the bacon to a paper-towel-lined plate.
Carefully leave about 1 tablespoon bacon grease in the skillet and discard the rest.
3. Make the Ranch Cream Sauce
Add the butter to the skillet with the bacon grease.
Add minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds.
Pour in the heavy cream.
Add the softened cream cheese and whisk until smooth.
Stir in the ranch seasoning, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
Simmer gently for 2–3 minutes. Do not boil aggressively.
4. Add the Cheese
Reduce the heat to low.
Add the cheddar and Parmesan gradually.
Stir continuously until the cheese melts into a smooth, creamy sauce.
If the sauce is too thick, add reserved pasta water 1 tablespoon at a time.
5. Combine
Add the cooked pasta to the skillet.
Toss until every piece is coated with the ranch sauce.
Stir in about ¾ of the crispy bacon, reserving the rest for topping.
If using cooked chicken, tomatoes, or spinach, add them now.
Cook for another 1–2 minutes until everything is heated through.
6. Serve
Transfer the pasta to serving bowls.
Top with:
Remaining crispy bacon
Fresh parsley or green onions
Extra Parmesan
Freshly cracked black pepper
Serve immediately while hot and creamy.

Recipe Q&A
Q: Can I use turkey bacon?
Yes. Turkey bacon works well, although traditional bacon provides more richness and crispiness.
Q: Can I use ranch dressing instead of ranch seasoning?
You can, but the sauce may become thinner. Ranch seasoning gives a stronger ranch flavor without adding as much liquid.
Q: Can I add chicken?
Absolutely. Add about 1½ cups cooked shredded or diced chicken for a more filling, high-protein meal.
Q: Can I make this ahead of time?
Yes. Store it covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. The sauce will thicken as it sits.
Q: How should I reheat it?
Reheat gently in a skillet over low heat. Add a splash of milk, cream, or water while stirring to loosen the sauce.
Q: Can I freeze Bacon Ranch Pasta?
It can be frozen, but creamy dairy sauces may separate slightly after thawing. For the best texture, prepare it fresh.
Q: What cheese works best?
Sharp cheddar provides excellent flavor, while Parmesan adds saltiness and depth. Monterey Jack or Colby Jack can also be used.
Q: Can I make it spicy?
Yes. Add red pepper flakes, diced jalapeños, or a little hot sauce.
Q: Can I add vegetables?
Yes. Broccoli, spinach, peas, mushrooms, or bell peppers all pair nicely with the bacon-ranch sauce.
Q: Why is my sauce too thick?
Add reserved pasta water a little at a time while stirring. The pasta water helps loosen the sauce while keeping it creamy.
Q: Why did my cheese sauce become grainy?
The heat may have been too high. Cheese sauces are best finished over low heat, with the cheese added gradually.
