This recipe is inspired by the uploaded photo: crispy toasted bread pieces layered over pizza sauce and plenty of melted cheese, finished with Italian herbs and parsley. It is crunchy on top, cheesy in the middle, and perfect as an appetizer, snack, or easy dinner.

Ingredients
For the Bread
1 large French baguette or Italian loaf
3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
2 cloves garlic, finely minced
1 tsp Italian seasoning
½ tsp dried parsley
¼ tsp garlic powder
Pinch of salt
For the Pizza Layer
¾ cup pizza sauce or marinara sauce
1½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
½ tsp Italian seasoning
¼ tsp red pepper flakes, optional
1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
Optional Add-Ins
½ cup cooked chicken, diced
½ cup cooked ground beef
¼ cup sliced pepperoni
¼ cup diced bell pepper
¼ cup sliced mushrooms
2 tbsp sliced black olives
2 tbsp finely diced onion
Instructions
Preheat the oven
Heat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet or shallow baking dish with foil or parchment paper.
Prepare the garlic butter
Mix melted butter, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, dried parsley, garlic powder, and salt in a small bowl.
Cut the bread
Cut the baguette into thick slices or chunky cubes, approximately 1–1½ inches each.
Season the bread
Place the bread pieces in a bowl and toss gently with the garlic-butter mixture until evenly coated.
Toast the bread
Spread the pieces on the prepared tray and bake for 7–9 minutes, just until lightly golden. Don’t over-brown them because they will bake again.
Build the cheesy layer
Spread the pizza sauce over the bottom of a baking dish or arrange it underneath/around the toasted bread pieces.
Add cheese
Sprinkle mozzarella, cheddar, and Parmesan evenly over the sauce and between the bread pieces.
Add the toasted bread
Arrange the garlic-buttered bread pieces generously over the top, slightly overlapping them as shown in the picture.
Season
Sprinkle with Italian seasoning and red pepper flakes if desired.
Bake
Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 10–15 minutes, until the cheese is completely melted and bubbling and the bread is golden brown.
Broil for extra crispiness
For a darker, crunchier top, switch to broil for 1–2 minutes. Watch carefully so the bread doesn’t burn.
Finish and serve
Remove from the oven and sprinkle with fresh parsley. Let it cool for 3–5 minutes before serving.

Common Questions & Answers

Q: Can I use regular sandwich bread?
Yes, but French or Italian bread works better because it stays crisp while the cheese melts.

Q: Can I make this with garlic bread?
Absolutely. Using prepared garlic bread makes the recipe even easier. Reduce or skip the additional butter and garlic.

Q: Can I use only mozzarella?
Yes. Mozzarella gives the best stretchy, classic pizza-cheese texture.

Q: Can I add chicken?
Yes. Add about ½ cup cooked diced chicken for a protein-rich version.

Q: Can I add pepperoni?
Yes. Scatter sliced pepperoni between the bread pieces before baking.

Q: Can I make it vegetarian?
Yes. Leave out the meat and add mushrooms, bell peppers, olives, onions, spinach, or tomatoes.

Q: Can I prepare it ahead of time?
Yes. Assemble it, cover, and refrigerate for up to 12 hours. Bake when ready, adding a few extra minutes if it is cold from the refrigerator.

Q: How do I keep the bread crispy?
Toast the bread pieces before assembling and avoid using too much sauce directly on them.

Q: Can I freeze it?
It is best fresh, but leftovers can be frozen in an airtight container for up to 1 month. Reheat in the oven or air fryer for the best texture.

Q: Can I make it in an air fryer?
Yes. Assemble a smaller portion in an air-fryer-safe dish and cook at 350°F (175°C) for about 6–9 minutes, checking frequently.

Q: What makes the top extra golden like the picture?
A combination of butter-coated bread, Parmesan, mozzarella, and a short broil at the end gives the top its golden, crispy appearance.
